The Iranians were there, certainly with US awareness and permission, and quite likely at the Americans' behest, to help defuse the Moqtada al-Sadr bomb. Looks like that's not gonna happen now.

I found a UPI story link (lost it, though) in which the US claimed that the Iranians were uninvited, which is just shocking--and impossible to believe.

In better news, the three Japanese hostages taken last week were released.

Unfortunately, one Italian hostage has been murdered. Which, of course, bodes ill for other hostages from countries supporting the war.
