The Seamless Garment

The Catholic Church needs to start paying taxes (along with many other denominations). If they're going to engage in blatantly politicizing their sacraments and selectively applying Church rules, especially in an election year, they really should pay their fair share.

I'm not Catholic, but the "Seamless Garment" idea, if really espoused, is a pretty consistent position. It approaches all human life as something sacred, and therefore to be cherished and preserved. In addition to opposing abortion, it also opposes the death penalty, war, and euthanasia. I don't agree with the position, but it is worthy of respect as an ethos committed to the preservation of all human life.

However, when you cherry-pick which parts of the garment you want to wear, the seams show. And you're a hypocrite. I see no uproar about denying communion to anyone who supports capital punishment. The Catholic Church really needs to get it straight here.

I'm really glad my grandfather doesn't have a computer. He'd kick my ass if he read this.
