Missed
Hawk's guard Bob Sura missed getting a third consecutive triple-double when the league took away a rebound after the game was decided. Yeah okay, so Sura missed the shot on purpose just to get his own rebound and finish with 10 boards, 11 assists, and 22 points.
Apparently the NBA finds it troubling that a player would, gasp, play for better statistics. As for me, I find it a bit troubling that the NBA can just wipe something off the books as though it never happened. If they can discount a legal, legal, rebound after the fact, surely they can change the outcome of a game that was wrongly decided, by one of those "inadvertent" whistles.
Fact is, Sura didn't break any rules; the rebound was a rebound, however it was acquired. If the NBA doesn't approve of his action, they would do better by letting it stand and letting the media pummel him with shame. As it stands now, the NBA looks like a bigger jackass than Sura.
